Social Media Causing Harm To Youth Lawsuits

The Facebook whistleblower, Frances Haugen, testified before Congress and stated in media interviews that Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) has known for years that its products—including Instagram—have a harmful effect on children.

On October 20, 2022, parents of children harmed by social media brought legal action, alleging that multiple social media platforms—including Instagram and Snapchat—were intentionally designed without regard to the safety of children.

In the lawsuit, social media companies are alleged to have created algorithms designed to addict children and lead them to images promoting eating disorders, self-harm, suicide attempts and suicide. The lawsuit further alleges that the social media companies failed to warn about known negative health effects associated with use of their platforms and failed to verify the ages of users.

Injuries linked to the use of these social media platforms include:
• Suicide
• Attempted suicide and/or physical self harm
• Diagnosed eating disorders

If your child suffered harm from social media, you may be eligible for compensation.
