A storm damages your roof. Water reaches the ceiling. Then the repair estimate arrives, and it is much higher than the payment Texas Farm Bureau Insurance offered. Or perhaps your claim was denied altogether.
Whether your home is in Houston, Austin, or another part of Texas, a denial or low payment can leave you wondering how you will pay for repairs. It does not automatically mean the insurance company made a mistake. Your coverage, deductible, and the cause of the damage all matter. But you can ask questions and provide more information for review.
Protect Your Texas Home and Document the Damage
If it is safe, take reasonable steps to keep the damage from getting worse. You might cover a broken window or place a tarp over a roof opening. Take photos before making temporary repairs, and save your receipts.
Photograph the damage from a distance and up close. Write down when you first noticed it. If water entered your home, list the rooms and belongings affected. The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) advises homeowners to document storm damage and make temporary repairs. Start the Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Claims Process
You can report a claim through Texas Farm Bureau Insurance’s website. The company says an adjuster will review your coverage, inspect the damage, and prepare an estimate.
Keep your claim number, the adjuster’s name, and copies of your photos, letters, emails, and estimates. After a phone call, note the date and what you discussed. An organized file makes it easier to follow the claims process and explain any concerns.

Review Your Texas Farm Bureau Estimate and Insurance Policy
If your claim was denied, read the letter to find out why. If it was approved but the payment seems low, ask for the adjuster’s estimate. Compare it with your photos and a contractor’s written estimate.
Look for specific differences. Is a damaged room missing? Does the insurer include a small roof repair while the contractor recommends more work? Are the measurements or repair costs different?
Check your deductible, too. This is the amount you must pay toward a covered loss before insurance pays. If the covered damage costs less than your deductible, you may receive no payment. That alone does not show the decision was improper.
Ask Texas Farm Bureau Insurance to Review Missing Damage
If you believe the estimate missed damage, ask a qualified contractor for a written repair estimate, photos, and a clear description of the work. If the cause of the damage is disputed, findings from an appropriate specialist may also help.
Send the information to Texas Farm Bureau Insurance and explain each difference. For example: “The insurance estimate includes repairs to one bedroom ceiling, but the attached photos and contractor estimate show damage in two bedrooms.”
TDI advises homeowners who think a claim should pay more to explain why and send supporting documents, such as a contractor’s estimate.
Ask What Your Texas Insurance Policy Covers
Home insurance does not cover every type of damage. Coverage depends on your insurance policy, what caused the loss, and any limits or exclusions.
If you do not understand the denial, ask the adjuster which part of your policy supports the decision. You can also ask what facts the company relied on and whether it will review the new information you provided. Keep its response with your claim records.

Still Disagree With Texas Farm Bureau Insurance?
If you have sent more information and still disagree with the result, TDI explains how to file a complaint. A complaint may help address how the claim was handled, but it does not guarantee a larger payment.
You may also want to speak with a Texas property insurance attorney, especially if the damage is costly or the insurer disputes what caused it. An attorney can review your documents and explain your options. Some disputes may lead to a lawsuit in a trial court; depending on the case, a trial court decision may later be reviewed through appeals. Those steps are not necessary for every claim, and the available options depend on the facts.
